In their 3rd album to date, Itiberê Orquestra Família celebrates their 10th anniversary with a brand new work intitled “Contrastes” (“Contrasts”). Comprised integrally of new compositions written by acclaimed bass player/multi-instrumentalist Itiberê Zwarg (the only exception being the track “Feitinha para Nós”, written by Hermeto Pascoal exclusively for the band), this is their most mature work, presenting their traditional eclectic set, performed by camera duo/trio/quartet formations, as well as the whole orchestra, always following Hermeto Pascoal´s school of complete freedom of creation, complex arrangements, and breaking of aesthetic and stylistic thresholds.

Nivaldo Ornelas is one of the greatest instrumentists in Brazilian music. In the seventies he was part of Som Imaginário, as well as Hermeto Pascoal's and Egberto Gismonti's bands. In 1982 Nivaldo released his second album, "À Tarde", in France. In the following year he took some of those tracks, added some new material and released the Brazilian album, "Viagem através de um sonho". This special CD edition includes "À Tarde" and the 1983 recordings as bonus tracks.

Between the end of Grupo Um's activities and the beginning of his venture with Pau Brasil (which is when they even received a Grammy nomination), pianist and composer Lelo Nazario released a broad range of solo works, one highlight being the album "Se..." ("If..."), recorded in 1987 and released on LP in 1989. With the help of many of Grupo Um, Pau Brasil and Hermeto Pascoal Band's friends, the album quickly became a Brazilian contemporary instrumental music landmark, not only due to the exceptional compositions but also the all-star team of musicians involved in the recordings. When Mutantes called it a day at the end of the 1970s, guitar player Sérgio Dias (then the only remaining founding member) launched his solo career, in search of new ways and musical directions. Soon he left for the USA, where he would live until 1985, playing with musicians such as Gil Evans, John McLaughlin, Ayrto & Flora, L. Shankar, TM Stevens, Jeremy Steig, Jaco Pastorius and many others, performing and recording at different venues and studios all over the country. Back in Brazil, he formed an all-star band and began playing live, performing the material written during his stay in the USA and presenting a style that ranged from fusion to jazz-rock, showcasing influences of Pat Metheny, Weather Report and others. This CD brings one of these shows, carefully recorded, mixed and mastered by the artist himself - previously unreleased material, finally made available after 17 years.

Formed in 1976, Grupo Um was one of the pioneers from the brazilian jazz and jazz-rock scene. After some years playing with well-known musicians like Hermeto Pascoal and Egberto Gismonti, the band developed a musical language of their own, registered here in their debut album, Marcha Sobre a Cidade, the first independent instrumental album ever released in Brazil. Edén Carrasco and Cristián Bidart are also part of the aclaimed group Akinetón Retard, which influence is heard in La Pichanga's music, as well as Ornette Coleman, Branford Marsalis and Soft Machine.
